What do you think librarians do?
Although librarians seem like they are sleeping on the job, they actaully keep the library neat and tidy every day. They help people in the library find out information about books, dvds, and computer access. They organize their books on the shelf in order; for example fictions verses nonfictions, author's last names in alphebetical order, and title's of a book in alphabetical order. They are really helpful to all different kinds of people that come into the library. They want to spread the love of reading books to people of all ages.
What do you think would be really cool if librarians started doing it?
I think it would be wonderful if librarians actually assosiate with their daily guests because it grows a bond and connection between the two. It would also educate the guests about information on finding a book, using a computer or renting a dvd.
What do you think the library of the future might look like?
I believe that in future, the library will consist more of technology such as updated ipads. Instead of reading a book manually, we can use the ipad to read any book we type in it which would make our lives much more easier than finding one book in different libraries that can be far from where one lives. If we wanted to read a manual book, there would be a technology that pulls the book off the shelf and transports to us in the front of the library. In the future, there might be a possibility of a whisper room. In this room, guests can talk as loud as they want but on the outside of this room it only seems like they are whispering because libraries are meant to be a quiet place for independent studies.
Hi Tiffany! Librarians have long suffered from stereotypes - I am glad to read that you have had good experiences with librarians. I like you idea of having librarians interact more with people. I am a librarian/instructor for the National Library of Medicine. The best part of my job is talking with people as I travel to medical conferences and meetings. I learn so much about life through the experiences of others. There are so many interesting things that people are working on and involved in that it never gets boring. I agree with you that technology will direct library services - making it easier to access information from around the world. It can also help us create great spaces to study and interact with others. Hope you are enjoying the pre-collegiate program and having some fun!
